A few days into their new jobs in Chennai, India, eight employees truly lived KLA’s commitment to supporting education when they visited a school where students from underserved communities were presenting projects at a science exhibition – with help from a mobile science van funded by the KLA Foundation.
As part of KLA India’s community social responsibility activities, the local Women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Empowered (WISE) employee resource group have quarterly engagement events to encourage volunteerism. Below, Sivan Modi (left) and Swati Agrawal share firsthand accounts of their day interacting with students at the science exhibition.

The KLA Mobile Science Lab, sponsored by the KLA Foundation, travels to schools with a staff of teachers and technicians who use science experiments to give schoolchildren a hands-on learning experience. The one-year partnership with the Agastya Foundation will expose 16,000 students in 15 schools to the lab with the goal of inspiring their young minds.
In addition to the mobile science lab, KLA Foundation is helping to support gender and education equity by giving financial assistance to 12 female students from underprivileged communities pursuing engineering careers through Project Puthri, which offers scholarships to cover tuition costs at government and government-aided schools. Employees also engage with students by mentoring them in career advice and important soft skills like effective communication and time management.
